We Must Remember Officer David Moore!!

Officer David Moore was shot during a routine traffic stop on Sunday morning. It is important to remember our fallen heroes that serve our community. Moore was a great guy that loved his job. Officer Moore, 29, joined the police force in 2004 and was credited for being one of those guys that always had your back.

With Officer Moore's death comes as a reminder of our own Officer in Beech Grove that made the ultimate sacrifice. On September 29, 2000 Beech Grove Police Officer William "Bill" Toney was fatally wounded in a foot chase from a fleeing suspect.

We must never forget these brave heroes!!!

Beech Grove Has a New Mayor!!

Precinct Committeemen met last night to elect the new Mayor Of the City of Beech Grove. Terry Dilk was named Mayor. Congratulations to Terry and we wish him the best as he assumes this new role with new challenges.

What do you think about President Obama's Stae of the Union??

President Obama delivered his State of the Union address Tuesday night. In his speech he calls for a spending freeze over the next 5 years. Republicans commented that he will have to do a lot better than a freeze to tackle the massive debt. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., a leading Senate conservative, said, "When you're in a car recklessly speeding toward a cliff, you don't hit cruise control," he said. "You slam on the brakes and reverse course."

Republicans and the country wants to see big cuts in the budget as suggested by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. Sen Paul proposal would cut $500 billion in 1 year.

"We're continuing to spend at a deficit level, so if we do that for the next five years, we'll continue to add to our debt," Rep. Kristi Noem, R-S.D.

Just hours before the speech, the GOP-led House voted 256-165 to cut the federal budget by returning domestic agencies to 2008 budget levels in place before Obama became president.
The resolution is non-binding, but it marks the beginning of a budget fight between House Republicans and the White House and Democrats who control the Senate.

What did you think of his speech??

Mitch Daniels - Education #1 Priority

Last night, Governor of Indiana Mitch Daniels (R), expressed the need for education reform in our state. He spoke of charter schools expansion, merit pay for teachers and the elimination of township government. His plan calls for rewarding teachers based on student performance and not based on how many years they have been teaching. He also said, one in three Hoosier children can pass the national math or reading exam and 99 percent of Indiana teachers are rated "effective." "If that were true 99 percent, not one-third, of our students would be passing those national tests." Daniels went on to say, families who can't find the right public or charter public school should be able to apply state dollars toward "the non-government school of their choice."

The speech wasn't entirely about education, though. He told the General Assembly to pass a balanced two-year budget without tax increases or "gimmicks." He called for an automatic taxpayer refund. Daniels also advocated for several local government reforms he has promoted in the past. They include the elimination of township governments and restrictions on "double-dipping" government workers who also sit on city and county councils. He also said Indiana's three-member county commissioner structure should be consolidated into a single executive.

Democrats criticized Daniels on his plan calling it "a distraction," but thankfully this year it will be hard for the democrats to stall as the Republicans hold the majority in both the house and senate.

Terry Dilk Lays Out Platform

Last night at the Beech Grove Republican Club Meeting, Terry Dilk, Candidate for Beech Grove Mayor, laid out some goals he would achieve if he were elected Mayor. Terry stressed fiscal responsibility and restraint. A few of his goals include preserving Beech Grove City services, decreasing and eliminating the use of Tax anticipation warrants, avoiding layoffs and completing the Main Street Revitalization Project. "The City needs to determine what the revenues will be and spend within those limits, not decide what we want to spend and borrow to make it happen." said Dilk. Dilk also said federal funding has been allocated for the Main Street project and is awaiting a funding match by the city.
